South Dakota School Safety Center
The South Dakota School Safety Center, under the direction of the Department of Public Safety, Office of Homeland Security, was created to promote a safe learning environment for South Dakota Schools. The Center serves as the core for information, training, technical support, and resources on school safety for school faculty and staff, students, parents/guardians, law enforcement, and mental health professionals.
The Center provides South Dakota K-12 schools with school assessments, trainings, best practices models, guidance, and technical assistance to all those who work with children.
Safe2Say South Dakota
Safe2Say South Dakota is a statewide tip line that allows South Dakota students, school staff, and community members to safely and anonymously report sensitive information that concerns their safety, or the safety of others, including mental health concerns. Safe2Say South Dakota operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone with information about a potentially dangerous situation can call the toll-free number, make a web report, or download the mobile app and make a report from a smartphone or digital device.

The South Dakota Office of Homeland Security works to prevent terrorism, enhance security and support response for all-hazards incidents.

South Dakota Emergency Management
The purpose of South Dakota Emergency Management is to protect South Dakotans and their property from the effects of natural, manmade, and technological disasters. SDEM recognizes the four phases of emergency management: Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation.

Student Wellness and Supports
The office of Student Wellness and Supports (OSWS) provides assistance and resources for all students to learn, thrive, and grow. OSWS strives to build strong connections and partnerships across South Dakota so educators can best support whole child needs involving social-emotional, academic, and career. Services are connected to Project Aware, PBIS, school counseling, SDMyLife, mental health, and more. OSWS helps students achieve success for the present and the future.

South Dakota Handle With Care
South Dakota Handle With Care is a program that enhances communication between law enforcement, schools, and mental health providers to support children exposed to trauma or violence, ensuring they receive timely and appropriate interventions.

State Homeland Security Grant Program
South Dakota Schools are eligible to apply for the SD Homeland Security Grant. Projects must have a nexus to Homeland Security providing protection against terrorism threats.
